On a dull and frosty February day it was a good opportunity to travel over to the lovely maritime town of Lymington in the New Forest in preparation for Alison and Gary’s March wedding at Stanwell House Hotel.

A beautiful and atmospheric setting for her small and intimate vintage styled wedding next month.

All photographers should be aware of semiotics, photographers should know how to read a photograph and deconstruct an image. A photograph is read as if it were a piece of text; signs and codes within a picture have cultural, iconic, metaphorical and symbolic connotations. A photographer should also have the skill to construct an image which has a denotative and a connotative text that underpins the photograph.

In Monday’s pre wedding shoot, Jenna and Gary have a relaxed and natural pose with the beautiful backdrop of the river at Christchurch Harbour. Their posture and body language shows that they are comfortable being in each others personal space and indicates they are very close emotionally. Their stance and posture is very equally balanced, representative of their relationship.

There are many messages in this photograph. The swan in the foreground has the symbolic meaning of love, purity and represents an extremely strong bond, swans have one partner for life. The steps mean that they have reached their summit of pre wedding preparations and are ready for the ceremony.

Time will fly by and their wedding day in August at the Captains Club will soon be here. I am looking forward to the Big Day!

Armed with a brolly, just in case the heavens opened on this blustery Wednesday afternoon, a relaxed Janine and David had a walk about from the Greenhouse Hotel to a few of Bournemouth’s hidden gem locations. As a photographer, I am constantly squirrelling away potential quiet spots with unspoilt backdrops which could be used for a rainy day. I am looking forward to your special day in June!

My last wedding of 2011, on the 31st December, New Years Eve at the East Close Hotel, Holmsley, Dorset.

An intimate gathering for the ceremony and wedding breakfast followed by a large party to celebrate further into the evening welcoming 2012 in with style.

Kathryn and Nick asked me to document their post wedding party which was scheduled  a few weeks after their wedding day, they had returned relaxed and tanned from their honeymoon in the Caribbean, Christmas was behind them and they were ready to meet and greet their friends and family again. It also gave everyone another chance to dress up  in their celebratory togs once more, something any self respecting bride would never say no to! I suggested a Photo Booth mobile studio which always creates an opportunity to let your hair down. Here is a few early pictures from their evening:

Pre-wedding pictures for Sheila and Tristan at the East Close Hotel near Holmsley. On these shoots we get together and spend some time having some very relaxed sample pictures as well as having a number of locations earmarked for the wedding. This is a good bonding session between the photographer and his excited clients as well as getting use to being in front of the camera which makes the wedding day much more comfortable and one less thing to get anxious about.
